Bridget Achieng: “Baby girl, nothing goes for nothing” – BBC Africa Eye

What is a socialite?
In Kenya, there’s a Kenyan version.
The Kenyan version of a socialite is
a woman who goes half naked
to attract the rich boys in town
and to get whatever she wanna get.
My AKA name that everyone
knows on the media
on the platform
is Bridget Achieng.
This was like $3,000.
I wore this for my birthday.
This one is Charles and Keith.
This one is a Christian Dior.
This is red bottom. This is bloody shoe!
I love them!
It’s actually 7:04 in Malaysia.
My holiday was awesome.
It was magical. That’s
the best word to use.
I do this all the time.
This is something I’ve always
wanted to do since I was a baby.
We used to sit there and just see planes,
and say, “Will I travel on a plane one day?”
My life was not always like this.
Oh my God!
I grew up in Kibera slums.
The ghetto is about survival for the fittest.
Most of the people from Kibera,
married in Kibera,
died in Kibera,
buried in Langata.
Today, I am dressed so simple.
I’m just wearing my Gucci sandals
and I’m wearing my ankle
grazer pants from Forever 21
because Forever 21 has
nice big pants for girls.
This is how I dress when
I’m going to the hood.
It’s not complicated.
Just jeans and T-shirt.
I tie my belt and I’m good to go.
The hood, there’s no problem because
the hood is where I come from.
I’m hood and hood is in me.
Rape is rampant in the ghetto.
No one is coming out to talk about it
but I was molested when I was a kid.
It really affected me until I was 25.
I just had a tough childhood.
So I just knew, in this
life I’m all by myself.
How are you gal?
It was here.
Isn’t this where I was living?
Their dad used to be my landlord.
People think Bridget’s mum
and parents are so rich
but guys, hey, this is my success story.
This is where I come from.
This is where I used to stay
when I was a house girl.
This is where I used to
live and go to work
and get that 1,200 Kenyan shillings
[£10] and get comfortable with it.
I am from humble beginnings.
You see this is the
jewellery I used to make.
I used to even wear
a shell on my head.
I was a total African girl.
One of my friends, we were just chilling
and then she was just telling me,
“Bridget, you have a nice body,
you can be a model or a socialite.”
That time we had
Huddah,
Vera,
Corazon
and I was like, I know I’m sexy,
if I’m gonna show off my boobies and
some ass on a picture…
I do this photoshoot, the next
thing, I’m the big thing.
I mean it’s nothing.
Because that’s how it is in Kenya.
You know when you’re a socialite,
your picture is all over.
People are seeing a sexy girl,
like a sexy, curvy girl.
All these rich tycoons want to have a
taste of this fine, beautiful African woman.
These are big businessmen.
Tycoons.
You name it.
They’ll send you a message and tell you
on the DM.
Or they can send their pimp who’ll just
text you like, “Can I get your number?”
I got those a lot
when I became a socialite.
So I got a good platform.
Nairobi Diaries.
And I said I’ll run away with it…
My girls are big.
You can see her ass.
– Yeah, you’re right.
We need something bigger.
I don’t struggle to fit in.
God has already blessed me.
I work so hard.
So why not get myself a car?
And, I tried.
I wouldn’t say I didn’t try.
You are a desperate
girl looking for money
and you’re getting a guy
wanting to give you $10,000
just to go visit him wherever
in Dubai or wherever
and he’s willing to
dash you $10,000.
$10,000 – some people have
never seen $10,000 in their life.
You just need to look pretty and get
$10,000 and be on the flight and go
and do what you have to do.
I always feel like
it has to be something that is in you
because it’s crazy things
that you’re asked to do.
You’re told to suck toes,
to do what…it’s crazy.
You can suck…
I don’t want to go deep. I don’t
wanna to go into details about that
because it freaks me out.
I don’t wanna scare people.
But the young girls need to know
there is nothing for nothing.
You want a million bucks, you will do something that is worth a million bucks.
You want $5,000, you’re going to
do something that is worth $5,000.
It’s something I tried when I
was in my desperate moment.
I had to do it to just get back up.
It’s not something any woman
should be proud of doing.
Humble yourself and
God will lift you up.
Humble beginnings.
I was a house girl.
I became this.
I got money.
God took me back there.
But the way you come
back up is what matters.
I have an orphanage
with 30 kids in Kibera.
I just want to, when I go,
I leave a legacy, you know.
Not just come
cause trouble and leave.
This is what I’d say to a young
girl who is beautiful, young
and wants a glam life.
Baby girl,
nothing goes for nothing.

  1. The best thing I think we can do for ourselves is just to live within our means and appreciate the fact that life is in stage and we need the experience for each stage to survive and handle whatever we will acquire in life so that it wldnt destroy us.

  2. You bet when she talks about sucking toes fam she don't really mean sucking toes damn lmao, chances are nobody out there would offer you $10k just to leak his toes that was just a cover-up. Then you see a lot of girls on instagram wanna be socialites thinking it's gonna come easy like that smh…you gotta be willing to do all that shit.

  3. Indeed my lovely sister you say the truth !!Nothing goes for nothing in this world !!😘😘😘

  4. This is a dangerous job ………….being a pet for saddists around the world. Eating mens vomit and pooh on private yatch is not something to be proud of young lady. I hope this evil ends.

  5. Best sister ever. Nothing goes for nothing. I don't wanna scares people. Thank you very much nana

  6. how people can be so selfish i don't know. She displays her exhorbitant stuffs with great gusto.Instead of wasting money ,it had better help those who are living in the slum area as she before lived. But now she forget the difficulties related to poverty,ànd only live her life.No i don't mean dont buy any expensive things no ,of course she can.But she should feel pity those people more thañ the others cos she knew what is poverty……

  7. You've allowed the West to make your daughters whores and prostitutes, I guess the next thing that will happen is your son's will be wearing dresses, lipstick and high heels !!! Shameless people !!!

  8. Some poor woman somewhere has struggled with her man, washed him up, dressed him , supported his dreams, then these plastic (bleep) come along and ruin anything. I don't get this socialite craze and I also don't get men who pay them either, so yeah I will judge. Get a job like everybody else!!

  9. I like her dont judge the path she took judge what she had done once she reached the end of the path she's a good hearted women and her story is real and it's the reality for most girls and we gtta accept that instead of wishing to see something else

  10. With a clear understanding of what, and who God is depicted to be across all religious affiliations, I think it would have been witty to leave God out of all this, and instead say something perhaps like, I started out broke, but now I can afford the things I once dreamed of.

  11. Too many ATTENTION WHORES! Sell ur shoes, & bags bitch. Send the kids on holiday instead of whoring urself out!!

  12. AFRICAN AND BLACK MEN notice that 90% of the women are condoning this behavior BUT they will be the first to complain when the foreign media depicts african/black women as whores.prostitutes and sluts. The total irrationality of women knows no bounds that is way a man should never follow the lead of any woman ; THEY NEVER TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR CHOICES/ACTIONS.

  13. As a Kenyan YouTuber and Life coach based in the USA I coach my clients to use education as a way out. I help them use their KCSE results to get a full scholarship in the USA and then make a difference back home. It doesn't have to be like this…

  14. There is NOTHING redeeming or attractive about this woman. Neither her mind, body, spirit, looks, bleached skin, voice, persona, and especially that horrible wig!!!! Next story, please.

  15. It is written in the scriptures we examine all things then test the spirit. People alwaiys hide under the perception of God says or it is not good to judge there is a difference between condemning and judging. If you don't judge or examine things how are you able to make the one firm conclusion or decision and recorrect the error/Sin which leads to repentance. Socialite is just a sugarcot name for an international prostitute there is at no appointed time did God bless someone from cursed money of selling your body to be rich, become a thief be it in government wearing a suit or a drug dealer with mansions and all the expensive lifestyle of this world. Only the god of this world Satan gives all this abomination gifts that comes with a price and your deceived it's a blessing. Soo deceived by the devil she might be doing charity work but good works don't count in the kingdom of God but your daily lifestyle and relationship with God NOT religion. JESUS NEVER came for the rich but he was alwaiys condemning the rich people because it is written for what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul. Remember the love of money is the root of all evil. It's good to have money for upkip but Not to idolise money and make it your God that without it you feel worthless. At the end of the day after death judgment falls so where will you be with LORD JESUS or Satan the deceiver???

  17. I find out she is inspirational to all girls and women out there thinking of SOCIALITE i like the facts that survival for fittest while nothing goes for nothing Huu ni ukweli usiopingika kbisa kama utataka cha uvunguni lazima uinamishwe

  18. BBC trying to embarrass Africa yet prostitution is legal all over Europe and they don't bring those stories they hide while people's dirt

  19. You want to continue having fans around the world? How about stop showing people like this as role models! Either help run a campaign for legal prostitution or stop broadcasting these women! Better yet, show men in this position too! I can't!

  20. Honestly not trying to sound jealous but u depend on ur body to fund ur life ur trips and every thing else no offense but a man only looks at ur body cause we both no ur face is really ugly

  21. I don't hate on her but what I don't feel comfortable with is the orphanage, how do we kno she won't pimp those kids wit her mentality of doing anything for $!!.shit ,she just said nothing is for free,it's a proven fact that pple who have been molested are most likely to molested others.

  22. This is why marriage is becoming obsolete & the male won't benefit from it but the females . i wouldn't mind if she's decent or than that fuck & forget .

  23. so many of you throwing stones at her in terms of judging her, remember the prostitute woman who was to be stoned to death because of her prostitution in the Bible but then Jesus said whoever has never committed a sin should take a stone and throw it to her noone did as they were all sinners.no sin is big or small.bridgit is grateful to God because she got past that life and with the money she has she spares some of it to her children in the childrens home .surely that is an act of thanksgiving.Do not judge and you wont be judged .dont just think of bad and aweful things and comment them ..your own words may haunt you.be good and kind..God bless.

  24. I don't have a heaven or hell to put anyone in, but I will say this: as women it seems like we're always portrayed negative, or put in negative situations, that dignity and self-respect is stripped at a young age. So they believe they have to do whatever it takes to survive, Lord have Mercy!!!😓 the wickedness of humanity is just too much sometimes to bear, and women get the blunt of it. As they are being raised in it, this is all they know. How can we get to being a Proverbs 31 Woman as the scripture says in the word of God. We as women have to set example for a little girls and girls in our neighborhood and Families. And tell them that self-respect and dignity has not went away. I want us as women to be seen in a positive light. Not thinking that we're just a body to lay with to sleep with to get whatever they want to get from us. We are much more than that. And God confirms it in his beautiful word the Bible. Be blessed my sisters.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🙏☝

  25. IM KINDA GLAD THAT SHE IS BEIN HONEST THAT AINT NOTHING FREE IN THIS WORLD 🗺 SO LIKE SHE SAID YOU A $1000.00 U GOTTA DO SOMETHING THAT IS WORTH A THOUSAND DOLLARS 💵 AINT SHIT FREE NO MATTER WHAT !!!

  26. Now watch somebody get mad at her for what she is doing. If you don't like it don't do it she like's it let her be.

  27. Love your honesty.. praying your orphanage grows, you get sponsors and become a socialite/influencer that brings glory to God. God can use anyone..

  28. Jesus, the level of arrogance in that statement: 'if you want a million bucks you have to do something worth a million bucks'

Sorry but no, you're not the only woman in the world worth a million bucks but they can't get a million bucks if they tried just because they don't look or think a certain way

  29. It's the economic crisis that has gals doing this. She would have chosen a better career path given different beginnings.Blame it on the MPigs🐷🐷🐷 and kid molesters. The pyramid system…very few rich trickling morsels to the lower class masses

  30. Seeing this and asking myself a question; this is publicly being encouraged to a young soul somewhere out there…A very disturbing thought but tells a lot how desensitized African society is becoming by the day.

  31. Thanks for telling us another story about poor Africans. When are you going to show Africans who live better than white people. Or better, please show Africans how the white British people really live.

  32. For those commenting bad stuff, please learn to watch full videos before commenting. The title is a clickbait( there is more to the content).
